Free ATV VIN Decoder
Find Your Make or Model Now

Greetings ATVers,

I have spent some time searching, and found these free ATV VIN Decoders, for all of us to use, since I have had countless requests from visitors asking for help to determine what ATV they have.

Learning your make and model is important, especially if you bought, or someone gave you, an ATV basket case. So, you need to know exactly what you have, so you can get the correct ATV repair manual, find and order parts, and most importantly, to get it registered after you have put your ATV back together again.

Now, if you purchased your ATV from a dealer, in good to new condition, you might not need to use one of these ATV VIN Decoders. But it is never a bad idea to check the VIN to make sure it was not reported as stolen by someone else, or even worse, that it was declared a "salvage" vehicle due to a prior accident.

In most states, if the ATV was declared as a "salvage vehicle", it cannot be sold as used for normal use. It must be sold as parts, and cannot be licensed for off road use again. This is very important to know before you spend a bunch of time and money on a project, just to not be able to register it...

Once you have determined the make and model from these ATV VIN Decoders, make sure you visit our Repair Manuals page to get the correct repair manual for your quad. This will make your rebuild project go a lot smoother and faster, and probably save you a few $$ in the process.

All vehicles manufactured after 1978 have a 17 digit VIN number. It is made up of a combination of letters and numbers, but the letter "O" is never used, it should be entered as a "0" (zero).

And your ATV VIN number will be stamped on the frame, usually on the left hand side, on the frame rail under the motor. Do not try to use the number that it stamped on the motor, that is the motor serial number, not the ATV VIN number.

If the ATV VIN is not there, it could be somewhere else on the frame, and may be attached as a riveted metal plate, or possibly as a sticker. Just remember, it must have 17 characters, or you need to keep looking till you find it. Some other "normally used" locations can be:
  • On the frame, near the A-Arm mounts
  • On the horizontal rail behind the brush guard
  • On the swingarm bearing tube
  • On the frame, around the top of the steering shaft
  • On the frame, behind the air filter housing

In the case of a filthy basket case, try cleaning with a gentle stream of water, a bio-friendly cleaner (like Simply Green), and a soft bristled scrub brush. If you use an engine degreaser and a power washer, you could damage the VIN sticker, making it impossible to read, after the grunge is cleaned away.

Be patient, and be thorough, and you will find it... Eventually.

OK, here are the FREE ATV VIN Decoders, as promised...
